Victoria Folk Music Society(VFMS) weekly gathering -- Everyone-welcome jam 6:45pm, all-evening Concert for Truth and Reconcilliation 7:30pm; Friendship Hall, 1110 Hillside Avenue, $8 cash at the door
Join the VFMS tonight for a special, all-evening concert in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconcilliation, a day established in 2021 to honour Residential School Survivors, their families and their communities, and to recognize the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School System.
Tonight’s concert will be hosted by The Anishinaabe Mitchell Sisters & David Scanlan, featuring musical and spoken-word performances by the Sisters, VFMS members Nancy Potvin and Sandee Mitchell, joined by their elder brother and sister, Tom and Joanne Mitchell, as well as special guests Metis singer Hanna Gentes, Indigenous writer Monique Gray Smith, Keri McLay, Gabe Paul, and Jennifer Louise Taylor!
The evening is also a fundraiser in support of the Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC) and the 75+ programs and services they provide to over 21,000 off-reserve Indigenous people living in Victoria, as well as their ongoing support for on-reserve citizens in the 10 local nations. The VNFC also kindly welcomes us to meet every Sunday night in their beautiful Friendship Hall and for that we are truly grateful!
