Viento South is a folk music project based in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada). Paulina’s strong yet subtle voice meets Lucho’s expressive guitar, stirring deep emotions through an original repertoire where North and South American folk traditions intertwine. In Spanish, viento means “wind.” Viento South is the wind from the South—sometimes a fierce hurricane, sometimes a gentle breeze.
The project performs in two formats: a duet and a five-piece band. The duet offers a sophisticated, nostalgic, and intimate interpretation of Latin American folk music. The full band—featuring bass, drums, and fiddle—expands the sound, exploring the fusion of folk traditions from both North and South America.
In 2025, its debut year, Viento South is presenting the Traveling Songs Concert Series, a program that evokes emotional experiences and reflections on travel and immigration within the Manitoban community. In this show, songs serve as metaphors for personal journeys and movement, exploring how music can take root and grow in new lands while preserving its origins. The project embodies a musical vision where Latin American, Canadian, and global influences coexist harmoniously in multicultural Canada. The repertoire includes original compositions and global selections performed in Spanish, French, and English.
The show has been performed on more than 15 stages, including the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), Brandon University, and the Viva Winnipeg Festival. It was proudly supported by the Manitoba Arts Council through the SHARE–Present Grant. Viento South is now preparing for its first Ontario tour and the recording of its debut album.
