Growing up in Southern Ontario, Bil's early influences were rooted in late '70s progressive rock and the era's singing keyboard-playing bassists. He was first drawn to the West Coast during a 1980 high school concert band trip to Vancouver. Struck by the Pacific lifestyle and the unique landscape, he vowed to eventually make it his home.
Two years later, Bil began a three-year tour of the Western provinces with the band Tall. Toward the end of that tour, he joined forces with K. Leigh Reich. That group eventually relocated to Vancouver, where Bil resided for 15 years while touring with acts such as Nick Danger, Steeler, and Monkey Business.
In 1998, he moved to Victoria to pursue technical schooling. After a brief hiatus from music and a period working in club lighting and sound technology, he returned to the stage. He has since performed with several local bands, including Squish, Pony Club, Usual Suspects, Don Tron, Synthetik, SuperSauce, Rock Steady, and most recently, Triple Dog Dare and Rock Yacht.
Many of these ensembles continue to perform regularly more than 15 years after their inception. With an extensive repertoire spanning four decades of popular music, a versatile vocal range, and strong bass guitar skills, Bil remains a highly sought-after session and substitute musician.
