Mayor's Arts Awards 2025 - Creator Award: Jesse MacMillan
Jesse MacMillan is a multidisciplinary artist and technician known for his thoughtful lighting and sound design, collaborative performances, and unwavering commitment to helping every production reach its full potential.
As the Technical Director of the Festival of Live Digital Arts, the Arts Stage Technician at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, and a member of PeerLess Productions, Jesse has made a profound impact on Kingston’s performing arts sector, as a collaborator, performer, and vital support.
Jesse’s portfolio additionally includes educating others in live stream production through the National Theatre School of Canada, sound design and music composition for local theatre performances, and occasional onstage and on-screen performances including, most recently, Still Alive in Kingston (2025). Jesse’s outstanding creative work, and his dedication to educating and supporting others in realizing their creative visions, make him a force in Kingston’s arts community.

Three Creator Awards are given each year to honour artistic merit and/or innovative ideas that foster arts in the city, contribute to artistic development and express the cultural vitality of Kingston. Artists and arts collectives may be nominated for these awards, including new-to-Kingston artists who have made an impact on the local arts community in a short amount of time.
