When John Sanfilippo (a.k.a. Johnny San, pictured) isn’t producing Kingston Live’s podcast, he works in the field of sonic branding with his company SoundWise (web link). If you’ve never heard of sonic branding before, it’s a lot like visual branding, except that instead of using logo, colour, and typeface to brand a business, you’re working with music, voice, and sound.

Today, how you sound is just as important as how you look. Voice technology, podcasting, UX/UI sounds, and even TikTok are all on the rise. When you find yourself in an audio-first or audio-only medium, none of your visual assets carry over. When you can’t see the brand, you have to be able to hear the brand.

This fall, SoundWise and Kingston Economic Development are holding a series of sonic branding workshops. Learn how to get the most out of your sonic media and build a deeper relationship with the public. If you run a business, produce regular media content, or just have an interest in the effect music, voice, and sound have on our lives, this is something you won’t want to miss.
