Liv Whitfield has momentum on her side. Luella—the Kingston-based teen's indie-pop project—quickly took off following the release of her debut album, Luna (North of Princess Records), in late 2022. Since then, Luella has garnered over 100,000 Spotify streams, and has performed regularly in Kingston and abroad, including sold out shows supporting fanclubwallet, Dizzy, and Claudia Bouvette.

Whitfield's early success with Luella can be attributed to her songwriting, as well as her collaboration with her father/producer, Zane Whitfield of North of Princess Studios. Together, they've made Luella's music rich and sophisticated but accessible. On stage, Whitfield and bandmates give impressive live performances, and on-screen too: Music videos for previous Luella singles have nearly 30,000 views on YouTube.

If Luella's early momentum has left you wanting more, your wait is over.

Not only does March 22, 2024 mark Liv Whitfield's twentieth birthday, the former teen will also be releasing a brand new single, Gogo, and accompanying music video. Produced by father Zane, Gogo is a "dance anthem" inspired by seventies disco (and fashion), and features an infectious rhythm and catchy melodies. It also deviates musically from Luna, delivering a fresh, upbeat vibe centred on self-love and unapologetic joy.

While Gogo is definitely a groove to move to, the song itself isn't about dance clubs or socializing. "With Gogo, I wanted to celebrate the joy of missing out and finding happiness in solitude," explains Whitfield. Lyrically, Gogo speaks to the experience of getting ready for a night out, but the music video in particular demonstrates just how much fun can be had staying in. "Who says being alone has to be sad?" Whitfield adds. "This song is an anthem for anyone who's ever danced their heart out in their bedroom."

Co-directed by Whitfield, the music video for Gogo was one of a handful that recently premiered at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival. Set and shot a single bedroom, it's described as "…a colourful and lively visual feast, featuring retro-inspired outfits, an eclectic set, and energetic choreography." Produced by Kingston's Outpost 12 Studios, it's a fun watch, and calls to mind the classic music videos of the eighties.

Gogo will be available on all major streaming platforms on March 22, 2024. Posted: Mar 21, 2024
