Kingston's largest live music venue, Leon's Centre, will be getting a new name. Eventually.

On July 19, the City of Kingston announced the "unique naming rights opportunity" and invited interested businesses to express their interest by submitting "…a simple proposal highlighting their brand's synergy with the venue’s rich legacy, commitment to community engagement, and innovative marketing strategies." Proposal documents can be requested online here: web link

As a live music venue, the downtown Kingston arena can seat 6,700 people, and has recently hosted acts such as Ringo Starr, The Offspring, Lee Brice and Arkells, with upcoming concerts including Billy Talent and The Glorious Sons on New Year's Eve. The arena is also the home rink for the Kingston Frontenacs OHL team.

In a news release (web link) City of Kingston's Director of Recreation & Leisure Services, Lacricia Turner, stated, “We are looking forward to building a new relationship with a partner to connect with the passionate community of Kingston and the region.” The news release also cited a "myriad of benefits" for the winning partner, which include "…associating its esteemed brand with this world-class venue, capturing the attention of millions of visitors, fans, and media outlets."

Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of "City staff, industry experts and community leaders" who'll make their final recommendation to City Council. The deadline for proposal submissions is Wed. August 30 at 3:00pm. Posted: Jul 26, 2023
