Known for their emotionally heavy, theatrical sound and high energy live shows, Cevilain have spent the better part of eight years developing their music and bringing it to audiences across Canada and the United States.

Having shared the road with some impressive names, including Finger Eleven, the band continues to push forward creatively, with new music and plenty more on the horizon.

Ahead of their upcoming Kingston performance on Thursday October 29 at Overtime Sports Bar, Virginia from Kingston Live! caught up with Cevilain to talk about touring, new music, the city’s musical reputation and what fans can expect when they take the stage.

The Interview:

Virginia: You’re coming to Kingston! What makes this city a must-stop destination when you’re out on tour?

Cevilain: I think it’s pretty clear that this is a music city, having produced The Tragically Hip, Headstones, The Mahones and Kasador to name a few… and there are incredible live music fans in that city.

Virginia: You’ve toured with some pretty incredible artists over the years. Who has been your favourite to hit the road with, and why?

Cevilain: That’s like picking your favourite child! But Finger Eleven, probably. They’re just super chill dudes, even though their drummer cheats at Chel…

Virginia: You always seem to have something cooking creatively. What’s next for Cevilain musically, and can Kingston fans expect to hear any new material at the show?

Cevilain: We are constantly writing, re-writing, tinkering, and playing with ideas. You’ll definitely hear songs from the new EP on this run.

Virginia: For anyone discovering Cevilain for the first time, give us the band’s origin story. Explain it like we’re five!

Cevilain: We’ve been together for 8 years now and we write emotionally heavy, theatrical music. We’ve had the chance to play stages of all sizes in Canada and the US and we’re just getting started.

Virginia: For someone experiencing their very first Cevilain show, what can they expect when you hit the stage? More importantly, what do you hope they’re saying when they walk out the door?

Cevilain: We bring a lot of energy and emotion. We hope that everyone can leave the room feeling like they found a little release from the outside noise and stresses.

Joining Cevilain on their current tour are Toronto’s NAKEDBURN, an emerging force in Canada’s emo-rock and post-hardcore scene. Blending the nostalgic sounds of the 2000s post-hardcore movement with the raw intensity of the 2010s emo-rock revival, NAKEDBURN deliver loud, hard-hitting anthems reminiscent of bands like Underoath, Saosin and Movements.

Kicking off the evening are Kingston’s own Listen Up Kid, a familiar name in the local music scene since 2012. Known for their polished dark toned pop-punk, the band has built a loyal hometown following while sharing stages with notable Canadian acts including USS, Dear Rouge, The Pack A.D. and Mounties.

With hometown favourites Listen Up Kid starting things off, NAKEDBURN bringing their explosive post-hardcore sound and Cevilain closing out the night, Kingston is in for an evening of heavy music, big energy and plenty of opportunities to sing along.

Whether you’re discovering these bands for the first time or already know every word, this is one show worth adding to your calendar.
